FDA Authorizes Pfizer’s and Moderna’s Updated COVID-19 Vaccines

Officials say the update is formulated to address the most recent subvariant.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized Pfizer and Moderna’s updated COVID-19 vaccines, to address the latest subvariant Eris from spreading before the fall vaccination campaign.

“The public can be assured that these updated vaccines have met the agency’s rigorous scientific standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality,” FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research Director Peter Marks stated. “We very much encourage those who are eligible to consider getting vaccinated.”

The COVID-19 variant Omicron has produced a number of subvariants, and the current subvariant has spread rapidly in recent months.
